In zijn reactie op mijn opiniestuk over de gutmensch, schrijft Tom Naegels dat veel islamcritici vandaag in dezelfde val trappen als zij die destijds het Vlaams Blok bekampten: ze zwelgen in een moreel superioriteitsgevoel. Geen woord ging de afgelopen weken zo vaak over de tongen als ‘superieur’. Gwendolyn Rutten bond de kat de bel aan in haar boek en een interview in Het Laatste Nieuws. In het nauw gedreven? Doe alsof je tegenstrever je monddood wil maken

In Plato’s dialoog Charmides onderwerpt Socrates zijn gesprekspartner Critias aan een kruisverhoor over de definitie van ‘bezonnenheid’ (sofrosune). Critias is een te duchten tegenpartij. Andere gesprekspartners van Socrates beperken zich tot frasen als ‘Jazeker’, ‘Dat klopt’, en ‘Zo lijkt het, Socrates’, maar Critias biedt weerwerk.
